Welcome to the Avast! Please be respectful when posting. Ok, so I've used Avast for years.

Did an update it asked for then noticed avastui.exe was sitting at nearly constant 50% cpu. Investigated and couldn't figure out why. Ran repair, uninstalled. Clean uninstalled.

Installed older versions. Switched to AVG. Last night it asked for an update.

Avast Service Taking Too Much Cpu

100% CPU usage - 96% is Avast. Don't think it's a virus (really appreciate the help). May 30, 2015  So today suddenly Avast! Service (32-bit) kicked in and wanted to lock my PC. Al suite II, core temp softwares, resource management, Windows not responding and even my internet speed went from 20 Mbs (up and down) to 0.6Kbs basically unusable. So today suddenly Avast! And there it is. Sitting at 50% cpu. AVGUI.exe barely taking up 10k memory. I don't have the UI up. I don't have anything running.

50% cpu usage. I figured maybe it was running behind the scenes. Let it sit all day. All day long with the pc idle. Wtf?Now, if I open the UI I get 2 enties of AVGUI.exe loaded the 2nd taking anywhere for 0% to 50% depending on it loading, but just sitting idle with it up.

Ok, that makes sense. Close the UI and one entry goes away. The 1st AVGUI.exe is still there. Still taking 50% cpu.Why the hell is avgui.exe sitting there and eating resources while the ui closed? My pc is crap.

Cpu

Avast Taking Too Much Cpu Test

I really don't need something taking 50% cpu. The hell is going on?And yes, I've run the repair on avg as well.

Was the 1st thing I did since it's always the 1st recommendation. Seems like Avast is getting rather CPU hungry for some people lately - although in that one the Avast service process was affected. For the record, I haven't noticed any of these issues.Have you tried blowing away the runaway UI exe with Task Manager? Maybe disable the animation in tray icon? (long shot I know, but I have it turned off and don't see these problems)Beyond that I would particularly the part about providing details for troubleshooting as right now we don't even know what version of Windows you are running. If Avast representatives get a hold of these threads, it would be nice for them to have as much info as possible.
